  1. Oh man, this takes me back to the days at Nintendo working on the GameBoy Advanced remake for the DS, Pokemon Soul-Silver. I can't say really anything because of the NDA other than I worked on it. But, on the topic of MissingNo, that really shows you just how dangerously specific a bug can be in its appearance/effect on gameplay and save corruption is definitely one of the dreaded 'show stoppers'. I found that to be particularly true on the project I worked with and some days you just found the craziest stuff without even trying to. Getting the repro steps down can be a nightmare, true of any project I worked on with scary glitches/bugs. Someone told me who found MissingNo originally, I can't remember the specifics but I'm fairly certain it was discovered on accident and the bigger issue was the programming in that area not specifying a particular pokemon to be seen in a random encounter and that it allowed item duplication which then threw everything out the window when it came to legitimate game-saves. Tournaments (which are very huge in the pokemon fan community I guess) had to be certain players were not using a corrupt save aside from influencing the game with a product like GameShark.
